I have a few quick recommendations for those guys out there that are thinking about losing weight, building some muscle, or just trying to improve your physique. These tips are not necessarily anything new but I think you’ll find them to be very helpful.
My first recommendation would be to join a health club somewhere. It’s true that there are a lot of things you can do outside of the gym, like jogging or walking. Both of these are valuable, but you’ll find that you really need more than these to really transform your body. Joining a good gym will give you access to the most important activity you can do: resistance training.
What should you look for in a gym? I’d recommend you find one with plenty of free weights like barbells and dumbbells. This is probably where you should be spending most of your time if you are really serious about getting in shape. Machines are OK, too, and you may find them useful as additions/supplements to your basic weight training exercises (like squats and bench press). Getting a gym membership should help motivate you to start exercising.
Another step is to start looking at what kind of foods you are bringing into your kitchen. Anything in your kitchen is just one step away from being eaten by you; so don’t fill it up with processed foods and sweets. It is self-defeating to do things that put temptation just a few steps away. This means you should go through and get rid of the foods that don’t help you reach your goals. Stock your refrigerator and pantry with lean meats, vegetables, and complex carbohydrates. You can cheat on your diet every once in a while, but set yourself up to fail daily.
Last but not least I’d recommend you find a good diet and exercise program–something that will give you a lot more information than I’m able to provide in this simple article. You may want to check out the Adonis Golden Ratio program (by John Barban). There are a lot of guys who have had good results with it.
